Connect your PAX A920 or A920 Pro terminal reader to Wifi, Hotspot, or Cell service
With the Pax A920 or A920 Pro, you can choose to use either Wi-Fi or cellular connectivity.
For Wi-Fi or Hotspot Connectivity:
- Turn on the terminal reader by pressing and holding the power button on the right side for 2-4 seconds
- Use the touch screen to bring the settings bar down from the top of the screen. You must pull it all the way down until the settings appear in full with icon names
- In case the terminal reader asks for a password, the default settings passwords are: pax9876@@ or 9876
- Select the Wi-Fi (below the Wi-Fi icon)
- Select the toggle switch to enable Wi-Fi
- Once the list of available Wi-Fi networks appear, select your desired Wifi or Hotspot network
- When your terminal reader has successfully connected to the network, it will confirm this action by displaying “connected” below the network name
- Start the Payments app if necessary.
Tips for Connecting to iPhone Hotspot:
Terminal readers typically operate on 2.4GHz Wi-Fi, whereas iPhone hotspots usually run on 5.0GHz. To enable your terminal reader to detect and connect to your iPhone hotspot, ensure that the "Maximize Compatibility" setting is activated in your iPhone's Personal Hotspot settings.
Follow these steps to enable "Maximize Compatibility" on your iPhone hotspot
- Access your iPhone's "Settings."
- Tap on "Personal Hotspot."
- Ensure that the "Maximize Compatibility" option is switched to "On."
For Cellular Connectivity:
PAX recommends T-mobile mini-SIMs for use in your terminal reader.
Follow these steps to install your mini-SIM in your terminal reader:
- Insert the mini-SIM
- Push the battery cover slide latch (at the back of the card reader) to the right to open
- Remove the battery case (lifting from the bottom)
- Take out the battery (also lifting from the bottom)
- Insert the SIM card in the SIM1 card slot (on the left-hand side)
- Make sure cellular is enabled on the payment terminal
- Go to the terminal reader settings
- In case the terminal reader asks for a password, the default settings passwords are: pax9876@@ or 9876
- Tap “More”
- Tap “Cellular Networks”
- Tap the check box near "Data roaming"
- Go to the terminal reader settings
- Make sure that 3G/4G is not selected as the preferred network in the terminal reader settings
- Go to the terminal reader settings
- In case the terminal reader asks for a password, the default settings passwords are: pax9876@@ or 9876
- Tap “Wireless”
- Tap “Networks”
- Tap “Mobile networks”
- Tap “Preferred network type”
- Select “4G preferred”
- Go to the terminal reader settings
- Make sure that the SIM APN settings are correctly set up on the terminal
- Go to the terminal reader settings
- In case the terminal reader asks for a password, the default settings passwords are: pax9876@@ or 9876
- Tap “Wireless”
- Tap “Networks”
- Tap “Mobile networks”
- Tap “Access Point Names”
- Go to the terminal reader settings
Recommendations when using mini-SIMs for Cellular Connectivity
- Make sure that the SIM inserted in the terminal reader still has data available for transactions.
- If WiFi is unreliable, forget the network to force the terminal reader to use the SIM card. This will help ensure a better connection, as PAX prioritizes WiFi.
